VenomPool

VenomPool

It was mid April 2021. The week of my 40th birthday. It would also be our 10th annual Brinner Celebration. Organizing a food truck, gathering the corn hole boards, sendin out the last minute text invites. I love Brinner. It’s Breakfast for Dinner, but so much more- anyhow, UPS shows up and drops off 3 huge boxes. 3 heavy boxes. 3 boxes that go together, each with my name on it.

I asked Amber if she got me a surprise. This wasn’t her doing. Curiouser and curiouser. I opened up these mystery packages to discover inside… the biggest statue I’d ever seen outside of a museum. VenomPool - a combination of the symbiote known as Venom, and the Merc with a mouth Deadpool. If you have yet to watch any of the Deadpool movies, they’re a must. No comment on the Venom ones. I unpacked the 3 boxes, put the pieces together. VenomPool, this statue is dope. The question remained, who sent this?!

The thing is, this was not a cheap gift. So if not my wife, who would get me something like this?  Who would buy such an expensive, magnificent piece of magic. So I decided to dig a little. 2020 was an interesting time, especially in April. For what was supposed to be my true 10th annual Brinner, the world kinda froze. It got weird, so for Brinner 2020 I had my good friend Shane come hang with me and the fam, and of course there was also Sara. It was a nice hot day out. We hung out at the pool, played cornhole, drank some “Jungle Juice”, went in the hot tub, drank more “Jungle Juice”, did my first backflip on a trampoline, drank more “Jungle Juice”, made some Brinner, drank more “Jungle Juice”, had the most delicious of birthday cakes, and “Jungle Juice, Jungle Juice, Jungle Juice”.  Needless to say I had a very pleasant Brinner on April 17th of 2020, my last year of my thirties. My closing of a chapter. I partied hard. Hard for an old guy that doesn’t really party, but is a super extrovert and has been jonesin for some hang time and misses his friends kinda hard. It was a memory I’ll never forget in a time that felt frozen.

This statue came from a company called Sideshow, they specialize in dopeness. Anyhow, I looked in my email and sure enough there it was… the receipt from the pre-order purchase made on April 17th of 2020. You see friends, I was in such a state, making memories with some of my very favorite people that cost didn’t matter at the time. I felt so good that I bought my future self a birthday present. Happy Birthday 40 year old Brant. What a nice little treat. So I suppose that’s the lesson here, that sometimes you have to let your guard down a little and treat yourself to something Bitchin. Life’s too short to not . So Treat yourself. This statue is a forever reminder to sometimes let your guard down, to yourself at least. I’m 42 now. Don’t get old.
